BLANCHARD DAD BUYS OUT RIVAL TEAM'S SHIRT SALE TO SHUT IT DOWN; RECEIVES SPONSOR PLAQUE

TEAM ORDERS SECOND BATCH; BUYER ASKS TO WITHDRAW THANK-YOU WITHOUT RETURNING SHIRTS

By Kyle Anderson, KTNB 27 Reporter

BLANCHARD, OK — A Blanchard father who purchased every shirt at a rival youth team's fundraiser to keep its supporters from wearing them has been recognized as the team's largest individual sponsor.

The man approached the table in a plain maroon polo, counted the shirts and asked whether the volunteers had any more.

They checked beneath the table.

He bought those, too.

According to the volunteers, the buyer paid the posted price for every size, including several he had initially described as “not going to matter.”

He then stood beside the empty rack holding two clear bags of shirts and told another parent the sale was over.

The volunteers agreed.

“That was our goal,” one said.

The purchase covered the team's fundraising target and provided enough money to order a second batch. Organizers placed that order before the buyer had finished explaining why nobody should be excited.

He reportedly asked whether the new shirts could be a different design.

They could not. The original design had just sold unusually well.

The situation escalated when a volunteer approached with a TOP SPONSOR plaque and asked how he wanted his name listed.

The man said he had not intended to sponsor anything.

The volunteer consulted the receipt.

He then asked whether the plaque could be returned separately from the shirts.

Organizers said the plaque was complimentary.

The buyer explained that he still wanted to keep the shirts off the other parents.

The volunteer thanked him for distributing the financial burden.

By that afternoon, parents from his own child's team had learned about the contribution. Several asked whether he planned to support their fundraiser as well.

He said that was different.

They asked how.

The father has since declined a photograph at the empty shirt rack and requested that organizers keep the transaction between themselves.

The team offered to thank him at the next game instead.

He asked whether that could be done quietly.

Organizers said they would check the microphone.
