BLANCHARD MAN RENTS BILLBOARD SAYING WIFE IS WRONG; SHE RENTS NEXT ONE WITH HIS TEXT MESSAGES

BOTH DISPLAYS PREPAID FOR A MONTH; HUSBAND NOW REQUESTING PRIVACY AT A LOCATION HE SELECTED

By Kyle Anderson, KTNB 27 Reporter

BLANCHARD — A Blanchard man’s attempt to settle a marital disagreement through outdoor advertising has left his denial displayed beside the message that disproves it.

Trevor Maddox rented a roadside billboard reading “I NEVER SAID THAT” after his wife reminded him how he had described an earlier casino incident.

Readers may remember Maddox from the ill-fated fire-alarm jackpot, when he mistook an alarm pull for a slot-machine control and refused to evacuate until someone verified the win.

Maddox maintained that the conversation at home had been misunderstood.

He then paid to make that position visible from the road.

“I wanted to put the matter to rest,” he said. “People need to hear both sides.”

His wife rented the next available billboard.

Her side was a screenshot.

The second display features a message from Maddox reading, “You’re right. I thought the fire alarm was the jackpot button.”

The reply sits beside his original statement in lettering large enough to be read without slowing down.

Maddox said the screenshot lacks context.

His wife said the context was a fire alarm he pulled because he believed he had won.

According to the couple, Maddox initially believed the second board was an unrelated advertisement being installed near his own. He became concerned when the crew began unrolling a vinyl panel containing his familiar blue message bubble.

He asked whether they had permission to display it.

His wife pointed to the invoice.

Maddox has since contacted the billboard company to request that the screenshot be removed, reduced in size or placed somewhere less directly beside his statement.

Both displays were prepaid for the month.

The company offered to send him a photograph showing that his original board remained clearly visible.

It did not help.

“I didn’t authorize an exhibit,” Maddox said. “I bought an advertisement.”

His wife said she had done the same.

The dispute has now expanded to include which board drivers notice first, whether the original message counted as a firm admission and why Maddox thought a roadside audience would improve his position.

He has proposed adding a third board reading “THERE’S MORE TO THE STORY.”

His wife asked him to send her the wording by text.

Maddox declined.

For now, the two displays remain in place, providing a complete account of the disagreement to people who only needed to get to town.

The jackpot remains unverified.

The record does not.
