TUTTLE YARD SALE TAKES UNEXPECTED TURN AFTER MAN ATTEMPTS TO SELL ACTUAL FRONT YARD

NEIGHBORS ARRIVE EXPECTING FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS; HOMEOWNER INSTEAD OFFERS 1,800 SQUARE FEET OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

TUTTLE, OK — A Thursday afternoon yard sale organized by local resident Cody Harrell attracted considerable attention after shoppers discovered the homeowner wasn't selling anything from his house.

He was selling the yard itself.

The unusual transaction began Thursday afternoon when Harrell placed three large "YARD SALE" signs along the street outside his home.

By 1:30 p.m., several vehicles had stopped, with shoppers expecting the usual assortment of furniture, tools, clothing and household items.

Instead, they found an empty driveway and Harrell standing in the middle of his front lawn holding a tape measure.

When asked where the merchandise was located, Harrell reportedly gestured toward the grass.

"You're looking at it."

Harrell explained that after nearly 15 years of mowing, watering, fertilizing and fighting weeds, he had decided the front yard was no longer worth the trouble.

"I've got a perfectly good backyard," he stated. "Don't see why I need two."

The asking price was reportedly $2,500, although Harrell indicated he would entertain reasonable offers and possibly consider a trade involving a riding lawn mower.

Several shoppers initially believed the man was joking.

That assumption changed when he produced a hand-drawn property diagram outlining approximately 1,800 square feet of grass, two flower beds and a decorative rock that he insisted would be sold separately.

One interested buyer reportedly asked whether the purchase included the tree.

Harrell responded that the tree was negotiable but that the shade would remain his.

By midafternoon, the situation escalated when a neighboring resident offered $1,200 for the entire section of lawn bordering his driveway.

Harrell accepted and immediately began marking the proposed property line with orange spray paint.

The buyer returned approximately 30 minutes later with wooden stakes, a string line and plans to install a privacy fence.

That's when Harrell's wife returned from grocery shopping.

Witnesses say she remained seated in her vehicle for nearly two minutes, staring at the orange lines running across the front lawn.

After exiting the vehicle, she reportedly asked why their neighbor was measuring the property.

Harrell explained that he had successfully sold the front yard and that they would no longer be responsible for mowing it.

She then asked how he intended to get their vehicles out of the garage once the neighbor installed his fence.

Harrell reportedly studied the proposed property line before acknowledging that access had not been considered.

The transaction was suspended shortly afterward when the buyer requested a property survey and documentation confirming the land could legally be separated and sold.

Harrell admitted he had neither.

He reportedly offered to write a receipt.

As of Thursday evening, the sale remains pending, the orange paint is still visible, and Harrell has been instructed not to conduct any additional real estate transactions without consulting his wife.

He has since lowered the asking price to $900 and updated his listing to read:

"FRONT YARD FOR SALE. GOOD CONDITION. YOU HAUL. WIFE MOTIVATED."
